I like their aesthetic. It's clean, almost uniformal. But it matches their sound.

I spent my young years in Manchester. I developed Epilepsy after moving to the US at a young age. My brother unfortunately took his life a few years ago. I have a lot in common with Ian Curtis. I also have the utmost and absolute love and adoration for the band that is Joy Division first and foremost.

They are my favorite band of all time. I can watch these shows over and over again. Given there arent many. Ian Curtis had is soul in when playing Transmission - and then the second it ended, he was gone in a poof of smoke. dropped mic and dashed away in the shadows. not feeling well? ZERO interest in anyone in front of him. both? tough times. a genius upon geniuses no matter what.

I was there on the Sunday night!

As a life long tattooed and musically influenced JD fan, who had this on VHS tape in 1987 I have some reflections in 2024. Firstly, this was a band barely keeping it together on stage. But, there is the charm. Curtis mixes up the words, which in my youth I thought was so deep and profound. But, today I see as amateur. The band constantly is looking to Morris to keep it together. So many flaws! Yet in the end what we see is a raw youthful passion, that I today as a GenX loser musician wished so hard to emulate. I wish my art could have, but what is here is truly and deeply unique.

I remember listening to this a few times when I tried to commit. It’s so calming but in a feverish way, I cannot explain it. It feels like a song that makes you realize you can choose to go out, a death march if you will. I am going to listen to this the next time I try on august 30, I’ll make sure to succeed this time.

Bernard in his HJ outfit never the world's greatest guitarist but those shard chords suit the songs, Hooky holding it together with that unique bass, looking out for the next bit of aggro, Steve the machine grinding away on limitless drumming and our Ian doing his thing. Legendary, absolutely bloody mythical. There are two types of people in this world. Those for whom Joy Division are their religion and the uninitiated who'd rather listen to Taylor Swift. P'Orridge bless him described their performances as "metabolic" and a nod to Sir Peel. Fookin hallelujah

No band that has come before or after JOY Division has touched the pit of my soul or sent shivers down my spine the way this band has. 45 yrs later and they are still doing it. For me the greatest band that has ever existed.

It's okay. Theoretically, over time, the more you find the truth and the more intelligent you are, the smaller you get, the weaker you become, and the more you sink into a motionless pit of Hell. The entire world will be chasing you down. Then once you lose your place in the vast order, you'll grow big and tall and chase society and women. Hahahaha. Once you hit something permanent, you'll never grow old. You'll be young always and return reborn into the same body. It's a nightmare either way.

Tony Wilson was a visionary for picking up on all the young raw talent that was erupting out of Manchester and other cities at this time. He was a really from an older generation but picked up on this fresh new sound and saw the potential in them. He had his flaws but he was a believer.

I have this on videotape and watched this about 20 years ago... before the UA-cam and the Internet were what they are today... I've just rewatched it... thought I'd just watch one song and I've ended up watching pretty much all of it! They were a force of nature, so very, very good. The best. Anyway fellow obsessives, I remember I spotted this when I first watched it but had no-one to ask. It looks like barney is playing the bass during Sound of Music. It looks like he is sat down playing the rickenbacker What does anyone else think? I always think the musicianship sometimes gets overlooked. But if that's hooky playing the guitar lines for sound of music that's pretty impressive! There are harmonics at the start during sound of music, which aren't easy, especially live and The staccato, thrashing, chopping rhythm sounds exactly like what Bernard does. I've looked at the sat down figure and I'm sure that's Bernard playing the bass lines. The sat down figure gives the bass to a tech at the end of sound of music and he's dressed with a short sleeved white shirt and tie like barney is for the following song Colony. For Colony Bernard is back playing the sg guitar and the bearded hooky is back on the rickenbacker. I spotted this 20 odd years ago and had no-one I could ask! I wondered if the bass line for sound of music was tricky for hooky or if they were just messing about! I can't imagine hooky being phased by any of the basslines…unless it's because he's singing the backing vocals at the same time. While Ian sings ‘love, life, makes you feel higher’, hooky sings higher, higher, higher progressively faster like it is on the record… That's another thing you don't necessarily appreciate, how good hooky's backing vocals are…which they are. I've tried playing bass and singing before and it's very difficult especially when the bass lines are precise, impossible for me. Really difficult. Anyway I could never find any reference to it before and I've read pretty much all you can on joy division. So just wondered if there are any fellow obsessives who know the answer.
